The SEO world is constantly changing. What worked yesterday, may not work today. There are numerous tactics and strategies an organization can utilize to get their pages ranking high in Google, Yahoo, Bing and other search engines. What I have found to be of utmost importance are two things. The first, is on-site optimization. The key thing to remember in on-site optimization is it is all about quality content that is relevant to the searcher’s query. So let’s say someone is searching for a dentist in Malibu, Ca., then your page certainly needs to reflect you are a dentist serving the Malibu, CA. market. Relevancy is the key and “Content is King.” The more relevant content you have on your site for your keyword phrase the more likely Google, Bing or Yahoo is to give favor to your site. Also, thing like authority and age of domain come in to play as well. After all Google has over 200 algorithms that are constantly changing.
As for off-page optimization, linking strategies reign. I have heard that linking strategies account for up to 40% of Google’s ranking factor. I believe it is true. When planning your own linking strategy it can’t just be about quantity of links. In fact, you can actually get penalized for having to many low-quality links on your site. At the end of the day your linking strategy needs to be all about quality of links and not quantity of links. For example, let’s say you own the Minnesota Vikings NFL football team. You would want a link exchange with someone like the NFL’s website, a good, trusted quality link with high page rank, as opposed to linking to someone like Joe’s widget service with no page rank.
SEO is an ever-changing service that needs constant work to build and maintain your web page rankings.
But, at the end of the day SEO can provide tons of free organic traffic that can serve your business very, very well for many years. The key is to have quality, relevant content that serves your users what they are looking for and have a strong linking strategy in place.
