Psychology of Search

My online marketing philosophy is complicated, yet simple. As my business name (page1ranks.com) is plural, this is the foundation of what I do for businesses. I get them seen multiple times on the first page of Google. This cannot always happen, but my track record is strong. That takes a combination of SEO and PPC (Pay-per-click) with the idea being the more often someone sees a business name on page 1 of Google naturally, and ethically, the better. Human psychology is at play here. Think about your own surfing habits for a minute. When you search for something online, let’s say its a dentist in Malibu. You do your search and up come all the paid and organic listings. On the first page you see one business that is listed more than once. That business more than likely is going to get your click because naturally you thought, “Hmm, they seem to be the good dentist in Malibu because they are listed twice on Google page 1. I have been using the public Internet from almost day 1. I still click through to websites that have more than one listing on the first page of my search phrase. I know better and am trained to recognize this, but I still do it. Psychology takes over and rationale is thrown out the window. I always tell my client that I will get them more exposure online, but once they click through to their website or call their business my work has stopped and their work begins. The website needs to take over and convert or the person getting the call needs to perform to get that prospect doing business with your company. So, when considering your online efforts, it is always a good idea to try to rank multiple times on page 1 for your keywords. Not always easy, but rewards can be great when achieved.

Remarkable Content, Links & 200 other things

Your business on steroids, the legal kind, not the illegal stuff. That is what remarkable content, with proper distribution does to explode websites to the top of the internet. If I had to sum up the best way to achieve higher rankings for websites it would come down to two things. It would involve creating remarkable content that earns links from respectable websites that want to share and show your content. In a perfect world the cream of businesses/websites would rise to the top naturally. All other sites that do not produce remarkable content and apply strong white hat SEO practices would file in below the good sites that have high quality websites linking to it. However, this does not always work and that is when the fun begins, or an SEO starts pulling their hair out. Let me give you an example. I have a client that has a large manufacturing company located in Los Angeles, Ca. The business has been in operation for 33 years, they are the best at what they do and their CEO is a Rock Star. The guy knows his stuff. He is a man of service, giving back to his industry, serving on boards and acts as President of one of the large associations he is a member of. You get my point? The company is the best at what they do, have the authority in the industry, yet their business was hardly seen organically online. With several hundred pages of remarkable content the search engines have not been finding their content. We uncovered the problem and in the near future this business will achieve its natural, organic, good positioning for its keywords. Rightfully so. For this business to be outranked by new sites, that are mere product sellers and not industry stewards is wrong. This is where the 200 other things comes into play. Google supposedly has over 200 different algorithms that factor in to a website achieving higher rankings. Trying to outguess these algorithms is something that is impossible to keep up with and Google is always changing their algorithms to keep ahead of the people trying to rank affiliate sites over legitimate businesses. At the end of the day, the real business with the remarkable content, serving its industry, serving its clients and taking care of its employees and just plain doing business the right way are the ones that should win the ranking game. That is the way it should be and Google is getting better all the time at making this happen. So, if you are a legitimate business owner and running a good business, then the best guidance I can give you is to produce remarkable content and share it with the world. In time, this will help your business get more online exposure, leading to more traffic, which in turn should lead to more leads, appointments or sales.
